goals that I have to make a compromise. That compromise is to work with gay men and heterosexual and bisexual women in order to get civil rights legislation, because the only way we can successfully do that is to present a very united, strong front out there. It's a question of priorities...

H.G. Is there such a thing as a Viva-Penthouse feminist?

Arlene: A few weeks back 1 did the Morning Exchange Program and Fred Griffith had said that the publisher of Penthouse claims they do not exploit women and that women who work for them are very highly paid and have a number

H.G.: Were you pleased with the recent NBC production portrayal of lesbians in "In the Glitter Palace?"

Arlene: Oh, yes. It was done in very good taste. I was pleased with the technical editing done by the Media Committee of the National Gay Task Force. anyone who says women are exploited must be a lesbian. And I was asked how I felt about his opinion that all feminists are lesbians. I said that it exhibited to me what in my opinion was a very homophobic reaction. It seems to me that it's like a straight man with a very weak ego who goes to a bar and offers to buy the woman sitting next to him a drink and when she very politely refuses, he says, 'Well, I didn't want to get you a drink anyway. What are you, a lesbian or something?' We would not have oppression if there were also not WOmen who are among our oppressors. These women who would work with VivaPenthouse or support it financially or for that matter the woman who will not take the time to listen or understand the Feminist Movement or who says,' 'I enjoy being a housewife. I just want to satisfy my husband.' They're buying the same story that's been handed to us all our lives. It's unfortunate that all that's happened, but it's all based on conditioning. It's not something that comes from women, but is channeled through them by the men.

In an article which appeared in the Citizen-Journal, Charles Keating, a Cincinnati attorney representing O.D., said homosexuals "are people who had degraded themselves below the
